SCS’s 4 Steps to Protecting ESD and Moisture Sensitive Devices During Storage and Transportation

STEP 1

Moisture Barrier Bags

  • Designed for moisture and electrostatic discharge (ESD) sensitive items (such as SMT). Meets ANSI/ESD S20.20, ANSI/ESD S541, EIA 541, JESD625-A, and EIA 583.
  • Designed for dry packing of moisture sensitive devices and to protect contents from damage due to ESD events or EMI.
  • Protects contents from ESD charges and discharges. Meets the requirement for discharge shielding per Static Control Bag ANSI/ESD S11.4 Level 3.

STEP 2

Moisture Level Labels

Ensure the proper handling and protection of moisture-sensitive devices with the SCS Moisture Sensitive Caution Label. Sized at 4 inches by 4 inches, these labels are designed specifically for use on foil moisture barrier bags. They clearly identify devices that are sensitive to moisture levels 2, 2a, 3, 4, 5, and 5a, as defined by the J-STD-020 standard, offering critical protection during storage and transportation.

STEP 3

Humidity Indicator Cards

  • Measures the level of relative humidity that the contents of the packaging have been exposed to
  • For use with Moisture Barrier Bags

STEP 4

Desiccant

  • Use Desiccant Pack in Moisture Barrier Bags to absorb moisture
  • Provides protection for moisture sensitive electronics (such as SMT – Surface Mount Technology); Best practice is to use with a Humidity Indicator Card
  • Desiccant is secured in strong, sulphur-free non-woven plastic pouches
  • Can be baked and re-used
  • No hazardous substances; see RoHS 3, REACH, Toxics in Packaging Statement
  • Recommended for use in clean rooms
